Public outreach
Kiritimati 2017
In July 2017, our team was fortunate to have the opportunity to share our knowledge and enthusiasm for marine ecosystems with the local people of Kiritimati. Myself and a few other team members delivered presentations on sharks and coral reefs to over one hundred students at the local primary and junior secondary schools. We also organized activities for the primary school children, including drawing their favourite marine creatures, guessing the sizes of the biggest and smallest sharks, and building a coral reef food web. The kids had a lot of fun, and it was a great experience for us as well!
Science communication
As a scientist, I believe that our knowledge and experience should be shared with the world not only through scientific research papers, but through more fun and accessible formats as well. I have recently re-discovered my love of writing, and I decided to start a blog as a way to share my thoughts on a variety of topics related to science and academia.
